IDOL courses® is the training company behind IDOL Academy℠ — a GNPEC-authorized vocational certificate program that has helped more than 3,300 professionals transition into corporate instructional design roles at companies like Google, Amazon, IBM, Nike, and Disney.
Founded in 2016 by Dr. Robin Sargent, we started because we saw the same problem over and over: talented people getting passed over for roles they were fully capable of doing — simply because they couldn't show the work. So we built the program we wished had existed.
The traditional path into instructional design
was broken.
When Dr. Sargent made her own transition into corporate instructional design, she discovered that the standard options — degrees, self-study, and generic bootcamps — left career changers completely unprepared for the practical realities of the job.
Great candidates were getting filtered out before their resumes were even read. Not because they weren't capable. Because they couldn't show the work.
In 2016 she founded IDOL courses® to fix that. IDOL Academy℠ is the result — a program built specifically for people who need real skills, real credentials, and real proof of competency.

The person behind

Dr. Robin Sargent has been an instructional designer since 2012. She worked her way to Director of Learning and Development, built corporate training programs for Amazon, IBM, and the International Baccalaureate Organization, and spent years figuring out exactly what separates candidates who get hired from candidates who don't.
What she found wasn't about credentials alone — it was about proof. A portfolio that demonstrates competency. Tools that companies actually use. Real experience you can talk about in an interview. And a credential employers can verify with one click.
In 2016 she founded IDOL courses® to solve that problem. IDOL Academy℠ — the flagship program — was built specifically for people making the career transition into corporate instructional design. Not as an academic program. As a career transition engine.
Every Friday, Dr. Sargent personally reviews every student milestone submission. When you earn the CPTP designation, it's her name and reputation behind that credential. That's not something you get from a course platform.

The IDOL World Project is a volunteer initiative where IDOL Academy members build free eLearning courses for nonprofit organizations on topics like self-care, wellness, and community resources.
It's very costly for nonprofits to commission quality eLearning. Our community donates that work — and we host the finished courses as free downloads available to anyone who needs them.
