Star Student Spotlight: Amiel Padayhag
Jan 06, 2025Case Study: Amiel Padayhag’s e-Learning Project for the Hamkae Center
Meet Amiel Padayhag, a student in the IDOL Academy and a rising instructional design professional. Amiel recently completed a project for her Design Workbook, where she created eLearning training for the Hamkae Center. As part of the project, Amiel worked with the Hamkae Center to solve a common problem they faced in their training process. Let’s take a closer look at Amiel’s project and the impact it had on the organization.
The Problem: Training Part-Timers to Become Canvassers
The Hamkae Center (HC) is a non-profit organization that focuses on civic engagement and community outreach to Asian Americans in Virginia for social, radical and economic justice. One of their core activities is canvassing, where they recruit volunteers to go door-to-door and raise awareness for their cause. However, training part-timers to become fully-fledged canvassers was a time-consuming process. It took several weeks and stretched the schedules of staff members and mentors. The initial virtual training session took up to two hours, and then mentors had to spend additional time in the field to help the trainees gain confidence.
The Solution: e-Learning as Part of ILT Training
Amiel’s project aimed to solve this problem by incorporating e-Learning into the Instructor-Led Training (ILT) sessions for the HC. She designed an interactive and engaging e-Learning module to be used as part of the training led by the Field Coordinator, who is primarily responsible for the HC’s canvassing efforts. The eLearning module was designed to be used on Zoom, making it accessible and convenient for all participants.
The Process: Utilizing Google Docs for Collaboration
To design and develop the e-Learning module, Amiel utilized Google Docs, a popular and user-friendly collaboration tool. She worked closely with the HC team to gather all the necessary information and feedback. The use of Google Docs allowed for real-time collaboration and easy sharing of resources, making the project more efficient and effective.
The Results: Achieving the Learning Objectives
Thanks to Amiel’s eLearning module, the HC was able to streamline their training process and reduce the time and resources needed. The interactive and engaging nature of the module also helped trainees to grasp the concepts more effectively. By the end of the ILT session, the part-timers were able to confidently go out and canvas on their own, without the need for extended field sessions.
The Impact: One Step Closer to Professional Growth
Amiel’s project not only had a positive impact on the HC but also on her own professional growth. As a student in the IDOL Academy, Amiel is constantly learning and applying the foundations of instructional design and adult learning theory. With this project, she was able to put her knowledge into practice and further hone his skills as an instructional designer.
In Conclusion
Amiel Padayhag’s eLearning project for the Hamkae Center was a success, benefiting both the organization and her professional growth. By incorporating eLearning into their training process, the HC was able to save time and resources, while Amiel gained valuable experience in instructional design. We are proud of Amiel’s achievements and look forward to seeing her continue to make a positive impact in the field of instructional design.
